Palatine, IL – Chris Dargis, candidate for Congress in the 8th District, issued the following statement on the recent news the U.S. Census Bureau under-counted population in Illinois by 2 percent.

“It certainly is good news the population decline may not be as bad as initially feared, but even with new numbers Illinois still loses a Congressional seat. The new numbers also do not absolve the state’s poor fiscal health and terrible business policies.

“There is no reason for Democrats like Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi to take a victory lap. Krishnamoorthi took aim at critics who have been sounding the alarm about Illinois’ population loss by saying, ‘Anybody who perhaps is trying to sell the opposite will have to reckon with the facts now.’

“Well, here are some facts. According to the moving company United Van Lines, last year Illinois had the second highest move-out rate in the country with 67 percent of moves outbound to other states. Illinois’ business climate also ranked 48th out of 50 states in a recent survey of nearly 700 business leaders.

“People are leaving Illinois because of the terrible mismanagement of our once great state. We know Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi is going to do nothing to solve Illinois’ structural problems because he refuses to acknowledge the existence of these problems. We need leaders in Congress who will address our challenges and solve them, not ones who will continue to ignore the facts as our state and our nation decline.”
