Schaumburg, IL – Ever wanted to phone it in on a work day because that’s exactly what your representatives have been doing here in the Chicago area throughout this Congress.
Chicagoland Democrats have voted by proxy, citing the “ongoing public health emergency,” 183 times since January 2021. Ohio’s Tim Ryan showed us just this week that the ongoing public health emergency can sometimes mean fundraising in California. We’ve already seen Raja Krishnamoorthi skip his vote on the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, but make time to go on MSNBC the very same day.
So what have these Illinois Democrats been doing? It looks like Bobby Rush is starting his retirement early, submitting a proxy each of the last 3 Thursdays for a long weekend. Robin Kelly also skipped work yesterday.
While Rush and Kelly are the leaders in the clubhouse with 28 skipped work days, Raja Krishnamoorthi clocks in at an impressive 19 skipping votes like the Inflation Reduction Act, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, the Equality Act, and the Combatting International Islamophobia Act.
So, do you know what your Representative is doing when you’re not looking?
Check out the full list of skipped votes below:
